Sally Fish now suffers from claustrophobia due to being locked in a pantry when she was young.
At the respectable age of 79, Sally recalls the terrifying day in which her brother Terry locked her in their small pantry, as a boyish prank.
“It was terrible, it was cold and dark in there I didn’t know what to do.” Sally tried many times to shout for help but no one answered her call. “I was only little, my voice obviously wasn’t loud enough!”
“Mum was out at work at the time,” recalls Sally. “I hoped my older sister Kathleen would come to my rescue, but she couldn’t hear me.”
Terry soon felt the guilt upon him though and let her out after about half an hour. “I was so pleased to finally see daylight!” says Sally.
“I did forgive him though”, she admits.
Sally grew up during the war and became a secretary, aged just 16. She is now retired and lives a peaceful life in Kent. All 6 of her grandchildren have passed through university, of whom Sally is very proud of.
“I’m so pleased for them all. They’ve all studied various things, I can’t keep up with them all!”
Her life may be much more calm now, however Sally still suffers from that frightful day. “I’m now very claustrophobic, I’ve been scared of small spaces ever since!”
Sally has forgiven her brother, “He was only having a bit of fun!” They now remain great friends.
